Plea against all Medical Devices being notified as drugs by SMTA
High Court has issued notice to the Health Ministry and sought its stand on the petition

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought response of the Centre on a plea challenging its decision to notify all devices, like blood monitoring devices and digital thermometers, intended to be used specially for human beings or animals as drugs. A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan issued notice to the Health Ministry and sought its stand on the petition by the Surgical Manufacturers and Traders Association (SMTA).

A reference is invited to the Statement on Development and Regulatory Policies dated October 09, 2020 wherein Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had announced making available the Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system round the clock on all days. Accordingly, it has been decided to make RTGS available round the clock on all days of the year with effect from 00.30 hours on December 14, 2020.

In the context of Covid-19 situation, considering the immediate requirement of ventilators and other items, the Central Government has granted exemption from Basic Customs Duty and Health cess, on the import of the following goods, with immediate effect:
a. Ventilators,
b. Face masks, surgical Masks,
c. Personal protection equipment (PPE)
d. Covid-19 test kits
e. inputs for manufacture of the above items
This basic customs duty exemption shall be available upto the 30th, September, 2020.

Validity of E-way Bills Extended
Validity of E-way Bills Extended
New Delhi: Validity of e-way bills generated before March, 24 but expired on or after March 20 has been extended till June 30, CBIC said. Wednesday. The extension meets demands from transporters and industry for easier movement of goods. The earlier extension was granted till May 3L CBIC has also extended the time limit for issuing orders in cases of rejection of refund claims, in full or in part, by 15 days after receiving reply from taxpayers, or latest by June 30. The extension is valid for tax officers on orders that were to be issued between March 20 and June 29. CBIC has also ex-tended the date for transition under GST on account of merger of Union Territories of Daman and Diu & Dadar and Nagar Haveli-to July 31.

G.S.R. 102 (E).— Whereas a draft of certain rules further to amend the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, was published as required by under subsection (1) of section 12 and sub-section (1) of section 33 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 (23 of 1940), vide notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Department of Health and Family Welfare) number G.S.R. 797 (E), dated the 18th October, 2019, in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (i), inviting objections and suggestions from persons likely to be affected thereby, before the expiry of a period of thirty days from the date on which the copies of the Official Gazette containing the said notification were made available to the public
